False
Apostles and Prophets Introduction † Jesus didn't
give a vague warning about false prophets, He placed it directly in
the timeframe leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem (Matthew
24:11, 34) † The question
isn't if false prophets would arise, it's when and for how long they
would operate (Matthew 24:3) † Scripture
and history both show this was a first century reality that came to
an end with that covenant judgment (Luke 21:22) Matthew
24:11 † Jesus said
many would arise, not over thousands of years, but within that
generation (Matthew 24:34) † This was
tied to the fall of the temple, the very question the disciples asked
(Matthew 24:2-3) † The rise of
false prophets was part of the judgment leading up to AD 70, not an
ongoing pattern (Luke 21:20-22) 1 John 4:1 † John
confirms this was already happening in their day, not thousands of
years later (1 John 2:18) † The presence
of many false prophets proves fulfillment was in progress (Matthew
24:11) † This aligns
perfectly with Jesus' timeline, showing His words were being
fulfilled in real time (Matthew 24:34) Zechariah
13:2 † God promised
a complete removal of both false prophets and the unclean spirit
(Hebrews 8:13) † That day is
tied to covenant judgment and cleansing, fulfilled in the destruction
of Jerusalem (Luke 21:22) † This shows
prophecy itself would come to an end, not continue indefinitely (1
Corinthians 13:8-10) Luke
13:33 † Jesus makes
it clear that prophets are tied to Jerusalem, not Rome, not America,
not anywhere else (Revelation 18:24) † This
destroys the modern idea of prophets scattered across the world
(Matthew 23:34-37) † When
Jerusalem fell, that system of prophets ended with it (Luke 21:20-22) Ephesians
2:20 † Apostles and
prophets were foundational, not permanent offices (Hebrews 2:3-4) † Once a
foundation is laid, it isn't laid again (1 Corinthians 3:10-11) † That
foundation was completed in the first century Church (Ephesians 3:5) 2
Corinthians 12:12 † Apostles
were identified by miraculous signs, not by titles or claims (Hebrews
2:3-4) † If those
signs are no longer present, then apostles are no longer present (1
Corinthians 13:8-10) † This shows
apostles belonged to the same foundational period as prophets, not an
ongoing office (Ephesians 2:20)
1 Corinthians 13:8-10 † Prophecy was
never meant to continue forever, it had an expiration point (Hebrews
1:1-2) † That
completion came with the fulfillment of all things in that generation
(Matthew 24:34) † Once
fulfilled, prophecy ceased because there was nothing left to reveal
(Luke 21:22) Hebrews
1:1-2 † God moved
from speaking through prophets to speaking through His Son (John
1:17) † This marks
the transition away from the prophetic system (Hebrews 8:13) † The last
days spoken of here were their last days, not ours (Hebrews 9:26) Luke
21:22 † Jesus said
all things written would be fulfilled in that judgment, that includes
prophetic activity itself (Matthew 24:34) † Once all
things were fulfilled, there was no role left for prophets or
apostles (Hebrews 1:1-2) † This seals
the timeline to the first century, not beyond it (Luke 21:32) Historical References † Josephus
records multiple false prophets and deceivers leading people astray
before the fall of Jerusalem (Wars of the Jews, Book 6) † Simon Bar
Giora was called a savior and king, showing how deception reached its
peak (Josephus, Wars of the Jews, Book 4) † Tacitus also
confirms unrest and false hopes among the Jews during this period
(Histories 5.13) How it applies to us
today † There are no
true prophets today because the foundation has already been laid
(Ephesians 2:20) † Anyone
claiming new revelation is speaking outside of what God has completed
(1 Corinthians 13:8-10) † Every modern
prophet is false because prophecy itself has passed away (Zechariah
13:2) † If prophecy
has ceased and the foundation is complete, then any claim to be a
prophet or apostle today must be false (1 Corinthians 13:8-10;
Ephesians 2:20) † We stand in
a completed kingdom where Christ has already fulfilled all things

And many
false prophets will rise up and mislead many people.
Beloved,
do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they
are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the
world.
"And
it will come about on that day," declares the Lord
of armies, "that I will eliminate the names of the idols from
the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also
remove the prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.
Nevertheless
I must go on My journey today and tomorrow and the next day; for it
cannot be that a prophet would perish outside Jerusalem.
having
been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ
Jesus Himself being the cornerstone,
The
distinguishing marks of a true apostle were performed among you with
all perseverance, by signs, wonders, and miracles.
Love
never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done
away with; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is
knowledge, it will be done away with. For we know in part and
prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be
done away with.
God,
after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many
portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His
Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom He also made
the world.
because
these are days of punishment, so that all things which have been
written will be fulfilled.
